Basic Stances These can be performed moving forward toward the front of the gym, then moving backward. Attacking techniques which require forward momentum can only be performed moving forward to the front of the gym, then about face with guarding block, and continue moving forward toward the end of the gym. The Instructor will show the proper movement, then face the students and help individuals improve techniques. Students should breath in at the start of each movement and breath out sharply through the mouth at the end of the movement, keeping the teeth closed. Walking stances create a solid platform to " ground" a defensive technique, and to generate power forward by using the floor under the rear foot heel to drive a strike. Sparring stances allow flexibility and quick movements in any direction, as well as offering less of the vulnerable areas at the front of the body as a target for an opponent. |
