Experience: 1986-1990 Studied under Master Jung Kook Kim, 6th Dan (Ji Do Kwon style), member of the Ontario Tae Kwon Do Association and the World Tae Kwon Do Federation, former Korean and World Tae Kwon Do Champion; at the Korean Martial Arts Centre, London, Ontario. Received Fourth Dan Black Belt from Master Kim, February, 1990. 1983-1986 Studied under Master Hong Sung In, 8th Dan, and Master Hong Sung Kwan, 6th Dan, at Hong's Tae Kwon Do Institute, London, Ontario. Assistant Instructor at Hong's Tae Kwon Do Institute Main School, downtown London, and University of Western Ontario Club. Senior Instructor at Strathroy Tae Kwon Do Club, established and operated by Mr. Gagel as a branch school of Hong 's Tae Kwon Do Institute in Strathroy, Ontario . Received Third Dan Black Belt from Master Hong Sung In, President of Hong's Tae Kwon Do Institute, member of the World Tae Kwon Do Federation, November, 1986. Received W.T.F. Referee Certificate from the Ontario Tae Kwon Do Association of Canada, February 1985, a pre-requisite for refereeing sanctioned black belt tournament competition matches in Ontario . 1976-1983 Studied under Master Hong Sung In, 7th Dan, member of the International Tae Kwon Do Federation. Received Second Dan Black Belt from Un Yong Kim, President of the Kuk-Ki-Won, World Tae Kwon Do Federation Headquarters, Seoul , Korea , January, 1982. Competed in North American regional and Ontario provincial tournaments. Ontario Middleweight Champion, March 1981. Judge and Referee at local Tae Kwon Do, Karate, and other martial arts tournaments. Received First Dan Black Belt from General Choi Hong Hi, President of the International Tae Kwon Do Federation, and founder of modern Tae Kwon Do, Toronto, Ontario, May 1979. 1973-1975 Coloured Belt training under Master Chang Young Che (5th Dan, Moo Do Kwon style) in London, Ontario; and Master Park Jung Tae (6th Dan) in Winnipeg, Manitoba, of the International Tae Kwon Do Federation. Author of the following Martial Arts literature: "Seikido Instructors Manual", (co-author with Zivorad Petkovic, 7th Dan), 2001. A comprehensive manual setting out the Seikido philosophy, its traditions and origins, instructor obligations, conditioning exercises; the scientific basis of techniques and their application; and teaching methods to be followed by all instructors, as well as sparring and self defence requirements for advancement of all belts. "Self Defence for Women"; September, 1994. An outline of self defence techniques designed for women and children who may never take another self defence class. It describes simple and effective techniques, using basic strategies of avoidance, evasion, striking, leverage against weak joints, and practical releases and controls. "Pre-Arranged Step Sparring"; January, 1991. An instructional guide setting minimum standards for self defence and sparring techniques for each belt level. "W.T.F. Full Contact Tournament Sparring Techniques - Attacks and Counter Attacks"; June, 1990. A guide for practising competition sparring techniques for W.T.F. tournaments per sanctioned Olympic competition rules. "Self Defence - Releases and Pins"; thesis for Fourth Dan test application, 1989. Techniques for defending against grappling and holding attacks by larger, stronger assailants, including avoidance, releases, throws and pins within a limited space.
